Evaluation of the year 2023
The year 2023 marked the loss of our car, the loss of our farm and the walkout of both our Kenyan ambassador and our Kenyan project leader. This shows the sustainability of both material and people in our project are limited.
These losses meant the first real test case in terms of endurance and flexibility ! The Kenyan/Dutch/Australian cooperation however easily survived and succeeded to continue both the sponsor programme and the mentorship programme.
In Octobre our first sponsorkid ever, called Hilary Ogutu, completed his university study medical engineering. We can therefore now state that we work from primary school level up to university, although we focus on high school.
Policy for the year 2024
The first half of this year was mainly spent on the restructuring of the Kenyan organization. Teacher Ronald Ouma became the new project leader. He registered a new community based organization (CBO) at the municipality simply called ‘Siaya Project’ (SP) as the successor of ‘Siaya Education Project’.
Ronald is cooperating with some of his colleague teachers at Nyasanda Community high school in Ugunja. In this way the organizing power of SP has multplied.
By adding Miss Finn Okewo to the board we have incorporated someone who is keen on the wellbeing of teenage highschool girls. The above mentioned Hilary Ogutu now is our website-and social media controller.
SP in this year focusses on education only. However, we are developing plans to revive our income- generating farm. The stables, the chicken house and fishpond are still intact and waiting for a new impulse. Education means selecting and sponsoring needy but talented high school kids as we have been doing from 2015. And it means continuing the Mentoring Programme, that has become so succesful over the years, with hundreds of teenagers attending.
Our website always caused us a lot of problems. However we work on our new website www.siayaproject.org, including a news blog and at the same time reenlivening our other social media, in this way broadening the scope of our viewers.
As our financial resources have weakened by the overwhelming participation by the targeted youth during the Mentorship programmes in April and August, we will go fundraising in September again, both for the December programme as for the continued sponsoring of 16 high school pupils.
