Nyasanda mentorship was again a great success in April 2024

Mentorship

Our lessons at the Nyasanda Secondary, in Ugunja, are not only aimed at improving learning performance, but especially at developing so-called “Life skills”. This means that students increase their self-esteem, learn to make a good career or study choice, develop their talents in a broad sense and learn entrepreneurial skills. They also receive information about drugs, hygiene and HIV prevention.

Classes take place three times a year, during the school holidays in April, August and November/December.

Usually the number of participants is around 100, but during the recent November/December edition that number increased to 157. This was directly related to the contribution by various guest lecturers from Kisii University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University and the school inspection in Ugunja.

The teachers during this most recent edition were:

  • Gordon Ochieng (mathematics and economics)
  • Finn Okewo (individual counseling and guidance/biology and chemistry)
  • Grace Ooko (English and literature)
  • Veronica Ojwang (Kiswahili/history)
  • Sylvester Alomba (chemistry/physics)

Siaya Project thanks the above teachers, but also the students, for their valuable contribution in April 2024 and expresses the wish that the joint work will continue in an upward trend in the upcoming sessions.
