Policy for the year 2024
The first half of this year was primarily dedicated to restructuring the Kenyan organization. Teacher Ronald Ouma was appointed as the new project leader. He registered a new community-based organization (CBO) with the municipality, simply named ‘Siaya Project’ (SP). Ronald collaborates with his fellow teachers at Nyasanda Community High School in Ugunja. This collaboration has strengthened the organizing power of SP, enhancing both international communication and cooperation.
We have added Miss Finn Okewo to the board, bringing in her dedication to the wellbeing of teenage high school girls. Additionally, Hilary Ogutu has taken on the role of website and social media controller.
Currently, SP focuses exclusively on education, temporarily setting aside income-generating activities from the farm. The stables, chicken house, and fishpond remain intact, awaiting future initiatives.
Focusing on education involves selecting and sponsoring needy but talented high school students, a practice we have maintained since 2015. It also includes continuing our highly successful Mentoring Programme, which has attracted hundreds of teenagers over the years.
We are developing our new website, www.siayaproject.org, which will feature a news blog, and revitalizing our other social media channels to broaden our audience.
Due to the financial strain caused by the Mentorship programmes in April and August, we will launch a fundraising campaign in September to support the December programme and continue sponsoring 16 high school students.
